Wedding Resources at Philly Custom DJ
I added a wedding resources section to Philly Custom DJ. The topics include:
- Creating a contact list so the DJ, caterer, photographer and wedding party can coordinate
- DJ vs String Quartet for the prelude
- Making a grand entrance
- Special songs like the first dance and the cat toss
Instead of using stock photos for the site, or my low quality snapshots, I got some beautiful photos from Wil Reiner. He’s a skilled photographer — an artist, really — and a terrific human being. Check out his work at reinerphotography.com.
Today’s Top-40
I’ll be DJing a Sweet 16 in two weeks. The set list is going to be made up of Top-40 dance songs. At this moment in time, I can identify every Top-40 song I hear on the radio. I suppose every DJ should know how to do that, but since I usually listen to indie music, this is kind of a big deal for me. Here’s my big observation: Chart topping Top-40 artists like to leverage their success by collaborating with other chart toppers. It makes perfect business sense and produces even huger mega-hits. And it’s not just the mainstream Top-40 that has this idea. Kenny Rogers just released a duet with Dolly Parton.
Abba Day
I was lucky enough to spend a whole day with Sela while her mother was away doing a course. It was a lot of fun. We played with blocks, read books, had a tea party, went for a walk, played in the park and napped through half a football game.
When she passed out on my chest, we were watching Yo Gabba Gabba, or Sesame Street, or Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood or some other kids show. When she woke up, about two and a half hours later, she looked at the screen and said, “Abba touchdown.”
Ooga Ooga Ooga…’till you’re tipsy
This video is too cute. Had to share.
Throwback Thursday
For Throwback Thursday, I decided that I would feature all of my Jethros. Jethro is a term we use to describe the person who accompanies me on DJ gigs. The Jethro helps me move the gear, connect and tape down the wires, run the microphone to people making toasts, signal me when to start the wedding processions…well…there’s a lot of things that a Jethro does. My four Jetros are Chip, Samwise, Roey and The Dude.
I shared this photo on the Philly Custom DJ facebook page, and it has performed better than any other post. Ah! The power of being connected.
