Notes

“One year ago, we knocked on the door. This year, we beat on the door. Next year, we’re going to kick the son of a bitch in.”
-Bum Phillips, Head Coach of the Houston Oilers in front of a crowd of Oilers fans on January 7, 1980 after losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers two years on a row in the AFC Championship game. The next year the Oilers got knocked out in the first round.

One of the most disappointing playoff losses I’ve ever witnessed was when the New York Jets got shut out by the Miami Dolphins in the 1982 AFC Championship game. Jets quarterback Richard Todd had a horrendous game on a mud soaked field in south Florida. He threw 3 passes including a touchdown to A.J. Duhe who was on the opposing team.

Every time they went to commercial in the 4th quarter, they played Kenny Loggins’ “This Is It.” I recall watching my friend, a Jets fan, having a difficult time watching his team, and an equally difficult time putting up with the Yacht Rock.

Good Luck Is The Result of Good Planning

I got a note in my fortune cookie which said, “Good luck is the result of good planning.” Excellent words of advice!

Act 1 of this show has music for a soundtrack to a movie that hasn’t been made.
Act 2 is about being a better person.

Suicide Lane

I got sideswiped in the center lane of Cottman Ave after making a left off West Laurel Ave. It was a minor fender bender.

When describing the accident to Trisha at the insurance company, she used the expression, “the suicide lane.”

Here’s how it effected me musically.

Election Special 2016

You made up your mind about this election months ago. All that’s left, is to head to the polls and actually vote. Take a break from the non-stop political news hype, here are 3 things to listen to instead.

99% Invisible Longbox

This podcast explains why REM’s Out of Time was the most politically significant album ever. Check out the liner notes at 99% Invisible or on Slate.

Radiolab – One Vote

If you’re wondering about how influential one vote can be, check out this podcast.

Election Special

This my constantly evolving election mix which has existed in some form or other since 1996. Music about elections, choices, revolutions, common people and the promise of another four years of silly government.
